On our day trip to Atchison, we'll visit two of the most-visited attractions in that town as well as a restaurant that's a favorite of the locals. Designated a National Historic Site in 1971, the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum is the most tangible remaining link with the pioneering aviatrix, who disappeared without a trace on her 1937 attempt to circumnavigate the globe.
Atchison is known as a hotbed of paranormal activity. The McInteer Villa is still one of the most unusual and picturesque houses built in Atchison. Haunted occurrences at the Villa. Fact? Hoax? Tour the house, and then judge for yourself.
After the tours and lunch, we will stop by Riverwood Winery for a wine tasting before heading home. This trip includes round-trip transportation by charter bus; tour of The Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum; tour of The Haunted 1889 McInteer Villa; private banquet at Paolucci's Restaurant; wine tasting at Riverwood Winery on the way home and staff escort. Driver gratuity ($2-3 suggested) is additional.
Cost is $105 per person if paid before September 29. $120 per person if you pay September 30 or later. No refunds after September 29.
The Y is working to help ensure that our community has access to fresh, nutritious food through Mobile Pantry food distribution programs in partnership with Harvesters. The programs address a growing need for those unsure where their next meal will come from.
Participants stay in their vehicles while volunteers load fresh produce, canned goods and a variety of other non-perishable items into their vehicles. All in need are welcome. The Mobile Food Pantry at the North Kansas City YMCA occurs on the first Friday of each month.
