The Linwood YMCA/James B. Nutter, Sr. Community Center has partnered with 12345 Fit-Tastic! and Partners 4 Health to bring The Truman Medical Center Healthy Harvest Mobile Market to the Linwood Y each week, beginning in April 2020.

The TMC Healthy Harvest Mobile Market is a mobile grocer that sells high-quality fresh fruits and vegetables at a low cost. This past spring, the Mobile Market added a weekly stop at the Linwood Y on Wednesdays from 3-4 p.m.

“One of the biggest improvements that we’ve seen through the work that we’re doing with our partners is that individuals are now paying attention to their health… People are getting it,” said Niki Donowa, Chief Community Relations Officer, Truman Medical Centers.

Since adding Linwood, each month has shown incredible growth in the number of transactions and items purchased. In April, there were just three total purchases with a total number of items sold of 37. One month later there were 58 purchases with a total of 666 items sold. That’s a whole lot of fresh fruits and vegetables for our community! Check out what can be purchased for just $5 by downloading the program flier.

Not only does the Mobile Market offer fresh produce, they offer recipes and provide tips on storage, prep and even kid-friendly activities that make healthy eating fun.

“The end goal is a healthy community,” said Katie McAnany, MD, Pediatrician, Children’s Mercy Hospital and Clinics. “We want people to have access to healthy resources. We want them to know what’s healthy and to be able to make the healthy choice.”

Check out the Mobile Market every Wednesday outside the newly renovated and expanded Linwood Y
