The YMCA of Greater Kansas City remembers dedicated friend and supporter Greg Westbrook, who died July 22, 2025.
Greg served on the YMCA of Greater Kansas City Board of Directors for 12 years, and most recently served on the Foundation Board for the past two years. His roles on the Board of Directors over the years included Secretary, Human Resources Committee Chair, Culture Council Chair, Financial Development Council Chair, and the CEO Search Committee in 2019 and 2023.
He was especially passionate about the YMCA Challenger program, which provides adaptive sports and recreation opportunities for young people with disabilities.
Over the years, Greg raised thousands of dollars for the YMCA Challenger program and provided leadership as part of the Cheers for Challenger fundraiser committee for nine years. For four of those years, he generously hosted the YMCA Cheers for Challenger Event at Teva, where he served as Vice President of Global Human Resources.
Greg also served on the Challenge Your Fashion committee for three years, co-chairing the 2022 event with his wife, Linda. Whether securing sponsors, auction items, or creating meaningful event experiences, Greg worked tirelessly to amplify the impact of the YMCA Challenger program.

A Y kid himself, Greg often shared how Y sports played an important role in his early development, teaching teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship and self-confidence. He was personally committed to the Challenger program so that kids of all abilities could have the same opportunities that he had.
“Greg's legacy is not only defined by his passion for the YMCA Challenger program, but also by his quick wit, charm and unwavering commitment to making a difference,” said Mark Hulet, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Kansas City. “His ability to connect with people and lead by example - whether in fundraising, event leadership or supporting YMCA board members and staff - made an indelible impact. Greg's contributions will continue to inspire and elevate our community for years to come.”
To honor Greg’s life and legacy, the family encourages donations to the YMCA Challenger Program. Gifts may be made online. Please include “Greg Westbrook” in the gift notes.
