What is the age to be a Y Personal Trainer?

Personal Trainers must be at least 18 years of age to be considered, but it can be a great fit at any age or any stage of life.

Do you have to already be certified to become a Personal Trainer at the Y?

All Y Personal Trainers are required to have an accredited certification in Personal Training or a related area.

What are the qualifications to be a personal trainer?
Personal training jobs at the Y typically require the following:
  • Current nationally accredited personal training certification, including but not limited to:

    • American Council on Exercise (ACE)

    • National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)

    • American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)

    • National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)

  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire — we cover the cost)

  • 18 years of age or older

  • A genuine passion for helping people of all fitness levels reach their goals

  • Strong communication skills and a warm, encouraging coaching style

What are the benefits of being a Personal Trainer at the Y?

All positions are eligible for training, professional development, and can contribute to the Y Retirement Savings Plan (403b) starting on day one. In addition, once age and service eligibility requirements are met, associates are automatically enrolled in the Y Retirement Plan, with YMCA employer contributions based on salary—no employee contribution required.
