Nicholas Benakis

Nicholas Benakis, Healthy Living Director

Hometown: Oswego, Illinois

Y Start Date: June 2020

Certifications: I have a Bachelors degree in Recreation Management. I am a Personal Trainer through The National Academy of Sports Medicine. I'm also certified through NASM as a Stretching and Flexibility Coach. In my educational journey at Western Michigan University, I worked with individuals with special needs, teaching Adapted Physical education classes for inclusive sports including baseball, hockey, bowling and soccer.

Hobbies: Outside of work, I enjoy being in nature, staying active and exploring the exciting town of Kansas City. I try to be as active as I can. I enjoy playing disc golf, soccer, baseball, golf and also can go for a good walk outside. My new hobby is trying out slack lining and I am always ready for a peaceful mediation session. I love being in the outdoors and around water, so you will normally find me outside walking up a creek bed or though the serene woods getting a walking workout in. I enjoy the process of cooking and I come from a Greek family where food and family is life. I am also new to Kansas City, so exploring different areas of the city has been fun since there is such much culture and activity in this city.

Favorite part of working at the Y: "Making a difference in the lives of others! I support the YMCA's mission by creating a inclusive environment that includes everyone. I love working for a company that supports me and continues to give back to its employees, the local community and people that are in need. The YMCA is always looking for new ways to improve their systems that will only continue to improve the ability to give back to the community. Working for the Y is such a wonderful experience and I love it."
