Hometown: Prairie Village, Kansas
Y Start Date: June 2022
Certifications: Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology from the University of Kansas, certified Agility Coach with DeBruce Foundation
Hobbies: I like to spend time with my adult children Jake and Jess, friends and family; gardening flowers and vegetables; live music, community events, hiking, reading and cooking
Favorite part of working at the Y: “The people! It's a pleasure to come to work each day knowing that I get to work with and serve an amazing community of people. The core values of honesty, respect, caring and responsibility shines through in everything we do at the Y. Being guided by these values leads us to be intentional about healthy living, youth development and social responsibility. I love the diversity, energy and sense of community that exists with our members, guests and associates alike! Being a top notch gym facility is wonderful, but I love that we are so much more than a gym. Being a beacon of light and a source of support and programming for our members and our community sets the Y apart and makes it the best organization that I've been blessed to be a part of.”
Program Director II
Hometown: Hutchinson, Kansas
Certifications: I am a Marine Corps veteran and I come to the YMCA after having served many years as a director of homeless ministries and programs helping men and women coming out of incarceration find stability through education and employment. I am a minister at Christ Community Church's Downtown Campus, leading Men's Ministries and I travel the country sharing my story of overcoming challenges to find success.
Hobbies: I am an avid distance runner, cyclist and disc golfer.
Favorite part of working at the Y: What I like most about my role at the Y is helping the community accomplish their goals while being able to create effective programs that serve our members and their families. I grew up at the YMCA and was involved in many sports programs throughout my youth. It was a long held dream to one day work for the YMCA so once my wife finished school (she is a Psychologist at the Veterans Administration) I took a leap of faith and left my long held career to come serve at the Y. Everyday is a new experience and our members remind me of how much joy it is to work for the YMCA.
