YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

Since 1860, the Y has focused on supporting youth, launching camping in 1899 and becoming Kansas City’s leading provider of youth programs by 1946. Today, from before and afterschool care to youth sports and water safety, our programs build confidence, values and friendships.

HEALTHY LIVING

The Kansas City Y built its first gym in 1883 to help young men new to the city stay healthy. From basketball and camping to family recreation centers and group fitness, the Y keeps adapting to promote physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The Y has always answered community needs, from the first-known ESL classes for immigrants to supporting soldiers and families in both World Wars and helping found what became the United Way. Today, that work continues through volunteering, scholarships, advocacy, and diversity and inclusion efforts.

Making Connection Possible

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility, the YMCA of Greater Kansas City is committed to building stronger communities. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of who they are or where they’re from. Community support makes that possible, helping ensure the Y remains a place where everyone can grow, connect and belong.

Our 2026-2028 Strategic Plan builds a stronger more connected Kansas City through four priority areas that guide our work: Transform Lives, Cultivate Belonging, Fuel Generosity and Ignite Changemakers.
