Lace Up for Basketball at the Y
Basketball was created by Dr. James Naismith at a YMCA in 1891, and that tradition continues today at our Y. Whether you are just beginning to play or ready to take on more challenges in our advanced division, the Y is where kids learn sportsmanship and the value of participation over winning.
Registration is now open for youth basketball for the winter 2018-19 season for players in Kindergarten-5th grade. Additional league information is available below.
The Y provides all game and practice equipment. Each player receives a team jersey. Weekly one-hour practices begin after Thanksgiving break. Coaches choose practice night and location. Talk to your Y's sports director if you have schedule conflicts.
One-hour games will be held on Saturdays, anytime between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Some 4th and 5th grade divisions may have games on Friday evenings. The first games are scheduled for January 5. Each team has a minimum of seven games scheduled.
Early registration pricing is available until October 29. The final day to register is November 12.
Sports are more fun with friends! Share the name of your friends, coach or school when you register online to be placed on the same team, based on availability.
Which League is Right?
Our 2nd-3rd Grade Advanced leagues use a different set of rules for players who have already learned the basics. Rule differences include a higher goal, 20-minute halves and a few other minor modifications. Only team registrations are available for the Advanced division.
For more information, review our basketball rules and contact the Sports Director at your Y.
Kids ages 3-5 are introduced to basketball through three instructional practices and three scrimmage games. Bitty sports are free for Y members. Ready for more advanced play? Talk to your Y's sports director about moving up to our Kindergarten-1st grade division.
Make a Difference. Be a Coach.
We need volunteers looking to make a positive influence and provide great experiences for youth. We help provide instruction and training as needed. No experience necessary. Sign up to coach during the registration process or visit our volunteer management system to get started.
