An Update from Mark Hulet, Interim President and CEO

Dear Friends,

I am honored to serve as the interim president and CEO during this time of great opportunity for our Y. 

During 2022, we continued to address the greatest needs of our community, and at the same time, move beyond the pandemic.

Here are a few highlights of our community impact.  

Get active this spring as you swim, bike and run during our indoor triathlon. Distances are tracked per activity within the designated time periods.

Help us make our community stronger by participating in fun, family-friendly service projects for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 16. As part of the Y's focus on social responsibility, the events encourage all ages to give back in the spirit of Dr. King and make it a day “on,” rather a day “off” from work or school.

Our first-ever Pick Your Battle tournament is coming your way, and it’s serving up two of the fastest-growing sports in America: pickleball and cornhole. This event has all of the ingredients for a good time, while helping to strengthen and support our community.

The holiday season can bring fun celebrations and traditions, but it can also bring higher stress levels while keeping up with day-to-responsibilities plus all of the additional things we feel like we have to do to prepare for the holidays. We sat down with Megan Walker, Healthy Living Director at Platte County Community Center North, to talk about staying healthy and managing stress during the holiday season. 

John Mikos, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Kansas City, has accepted the position of president and CEO of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee in Nashville. He will remain in his current role in Kansas City through December 31, 2022.

To combat historic health inequities in aquatics, GEHA and its partners will provide up to 650 students with free swim lessons and equipment through the Joe Delaney Learn to Swim Program, Presented by GEHA. Lessons will focus on water safety and increasing access to aquatics.

A new program for youth athletes who want to improve their speed and agility is returning January 4 at Platte County Community Center South.
