Be the Difference. Become a Buddy.

Simple tips to help you connect, encourage independence, and keep every athlete safe and supported:

Be There

Your presence matters. Your athlete and team are counting on you—do your best to attend every practice and game.

Be On Time

Arrive about 15 minutes early. Most games last around one hour.

Get to Know Your Player

Connect with families, review your player’s bio, and learn what they enjoy, what encourages them, and when to step in or give space.

Keep Safety First

Be aware of your surroundings at all times. As a buddy, you’re a friend, coach, and cheerleader—but most importantly, a protector.

Dress and Equipment

Wear your provided buddy shirt and bring a glove for baseball season. Gloves are available if needed, just ask your coach.

Encourage Independence

It’s their game. Support your athlete at their level, celebrate effort, and focus on what they can do.

Ask for Support

If you have questions or concerns, talk with your coach or YMCA staff—we’re here to help.

Stay Patient & Positive

Every athlete communicates differently. Your patience, encouragement, and effort make a lasting impact.
