Matter of Balance Class

Active Older Adult Events
to
Free class for older adults who are MEMBERS of the Y and are concerned about falling or have fallen.This class will help with viewing falls as controllable, setting goals for increased activity and improving balance, flexibility and strength. You can make changes at home to reduce fall risk. Class is led by a North Kansas City Hospital Registered Nurse.
This class is for those who want to increase activity and exercise and can walk independently (a cane is okay). Not appropriate for those with dementia.
Class is 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. every Monday, March 27 through May 15.

Participant can walk independently (a cane is okay.) Class is not appropriate for those with dementia. Learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increased activity, improve balance, flexibility and strength and make changes at home to reduce fall risk.
Mobile Food Pantry

The Y is working to help ensure that our community has access to fresh, nutritious food through Mobile Pantry food distribution programs in partnership with Harvesters. The programs address a growing need for those unsure where their next meal will come from.
Participants stay in their vehicles while volunteers load fresh produce, canned goods and a variety of other non-perishable items into their vehicles. All in need are welcome. The Mobile Food Pantry at the Olathe Family YMCA occurs on the first Wednesday of each month.
Head Start Mass Application Event

The Mid-America Regional Council is hosting Mass Application Events in Clay, Platte and Jackson counties throughout the months of March and April for YMCA Head Start programs. This event is at Green Hills Library, 8581 N. Green Hills Road, Kansas City, MO 64154.
Applications will be completed on a walk in basis. Last application is taken at 3:15 p.m. No appointment is necessary.

Kids Night Out

At the Y, we know parents need a break from time to time. With Kids Night Out, parents enjoy a night out while kids engage in fun and safe activities at the Y. Kids, ages 3 to 11, enjoy games, crafts, dinner, swimming and more centered around a unique monthly theme. 3-year-olds must be potty-trained. *Check in is from 4:30 - 5 p.m. The program starts promptly at 5 p.m. and doors will be locked at that time, as the center will be closed.
