The Kansas City Current is proud to support the YMCA of Greater Kansas City’s Soccer Programs in partnership with Hy-Vee. More than 1,500 children will participate in the three different programs, officially known as KC Current YMCA Soccer.  

“We are thrilled to partner with the YMCA and Hy-Vee to support youth soccer,” said KC Current co-owner Angie Long. “Our partnership will create additional opportunities for children across the metro to explore soccer and so many other sports from a young age. We can’t wait to see them take the pitch in their new KC Current gear!”

“The Y is grateful to KC Current for their support and commitment to youth development,” said Garry Linn, senior vice president of operations for the YMCA of Greater Kansas City. “Working together, we'll be able to serve more youth across the metro and lay the foundation for the next generation of soccer athletes.”

The three different KC Current YMCA Soccer Programs will be available for children ages three through third grade. KC Current YMCA Bitty Soccer will teach ages 3-5 the basics of the sport in a structured, fun and noncompetitive environment. KC Current YMCA Youth Soccer puts the emphasis on fun, sportsmanship and teamwork for kindergarten through third grade participants. KC Current YMCA Challenger Soccer is open to athletes from 4-30 years of age with physical, developmental and intellectual disabilities. 

The Current will partner with Hy-Vee to provide program support, as well as jerseys, coach t-shirts and soccer balls for participants. Participants will also be invited to YMCA Night at a KC Current match in the 2022 season. Each child will receive one free ticket, with the opportunity for families to purchase additional discounted tickets. The participating children will be honored at the match. 

About the Kansas City Current
Founded in December 2020, the Kansas City Current is led by the ownership group of Angie Long, Chris Long and Brittany Matthews. The team competes in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and played its first season in 2021. The Kansas City Current announced plans for the first stadium purpose-built for an NWSL team with expected completion in 2024.
