COVID-19 Response: Latest Updates

YMCA of Greater Kansas City
March 23, 2020
Announcement

Here are the latest updates regarding Y operations and programs as we respond to public health guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). We are closely monitoring this situation, and we will update this blog regularly as plans change and new information becomes available.

UPDATE 3/23 - 5:30 pm

Your membership during this time has helped us remain fully focused on our efforts to help our community stay strong in spirit, mind and body. However, we also understand the challenges we’re all facing.

As our temporary closure has extended beyond anticipation through April 26, we are providing options to allow you to update the status of your membership:

  • Convert Your Membership Fee to a Donation.
You can choose to continue your monthly draft and convert your membership fee to a donation. The Y will maintain your current draft amount, or you can choose a different amount. We will convert the draft payment into a donation and provide you with appropriate documentation for tax purposes. When the Y reopens, your membership will continue at your original rate and regular draft date.

  • Place Your Membership On Hold.
If you wish, we will place your membership on hold, and you will not be charged until the Y reopens. All standard hold fees will be waived. As soon as we reopen, your membership will automatically resume at your original rate and regular draft date.

Please access our Membership Update Form to complete your information and allow us to update the status of your membership. If we do not hear from you, your membership drafts will be converted to a donation.

If you have questions, you may contact our Business Support Team at 816.360.3311 or Feedback@KansasCityYMCA.orgPlease allow 3-5 working days for our Business Support team to update your information and confirm with you.

UPDATE 3/19 - 1:15 pm

Based on the latest recommendations from county and city health officials, our Y centers will remain temporarily closed through Sunday, April 5. This is an extension of policies and recommendations of health authorities, in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in our community.

Youth Sports and Swim
Families who are registered for Swim Lessons or in Y Youth Sports programs will receive more information about re-scheduling or changes to programming.

Y Club Care, Y Summer Day Camp
Families currently in Kansas Y Club Before and After School programs will not be charged any payments scheduled for the rest of the school year. At this time, schedules for Y Summer Day Camp have not changed.  The Y is working diligently with school districts and health officials to determine options for providing care. UPDATE 3/16 - 1:20 PM

Y Membership Centers - Temporary Closure

Based on recently updated guidelines from county and city health officials, all YMCA of Greater Kansas City centers will temporarily close beginning at 3 p.m. Monday, March 16. At this time, we anticipate this temporary closure through Sunday, March 22. This includes Y programs at Riverside Community Center and Grain Valley Active Older Adults programs.

There have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at any Y facility, and we increased our existing cleaning protocols to help prevent the spread of germs. As a nonprofit, community organization committed to wellness for all, we are responding based on public health recommendations and with concern for our associates, members, program participants and the community as a whole.

To help you stay healthy in spirit, mind and body during this time, the Y is partnering with Y360 to offer wellness programs online, free of charge to you as a Y member. Visit KansasCityYMCA.org/OnlineWellness to get started and access additional resources.

  • Swim Lessons
  • Challenger Adaptive programs

Youth Development Services (Y Club, No School Days, Spring Break Camp)

  • Spring Break Camps/No School Days have been canceled for the week of March 16, and the Y is processing refunds.
  • We are working with school districts and public health officials to determine what services we will be able to offer the week of March 23 and how we can best support our community.
