In Youth Flag Football, the focus is on teamwork in a positive and structured environment. Children learn how to throw, catch, run routes and other aspects of the game that will keep them active and develop skills such as hand-eye coordination. In addition, children will have an opportunity to develop leadership skills and build self-esteem as they learn.

The Y’s youth flag football programs are sponsored by the Kansas City Chiefs. Flag football participants receive exclusive Chiefs jerseys and medals, as well as access to Chiefs football camps, special events for families, and appearances by KC Wolf and the Chiefs Cheerleaders.

Thanks to a grant from USA Football benefitting the YMCA of Greater Kansas City girls flag football program, prices are reduced for girls flag football leagues.

Bitty Flag Football is also available for players ages 3-5 years.

What happens if there are only two teams, three teams, or another odd number of teams in my age division?

Every team is guaranteed a minimum of (3) three pool play games.

If there are only two teams, you will play a best of three (first team to win two games). Once a winner is determined in a best of three series, no additional games will be played as the Champion has already qualified.

If there are three teams in your division, you will play each other team once. From there, the top two teams will go directly into a championship game.

If there are an odd number of teams higher than three, one team in that division will be randomly selected to play a fourth pool play game. The fourth pool play game counts toward overall standings.

What size football will my team use?

6u, 7u, 8u, 8uRec and 10uG will use a Pee Wee size ball. All other age divisions will use a Junior size ball.
