Olathe Junior Lifeguard Class - Saturdays

First of four sessions. Meets weekly on Saturdays through March 6.

If you love to swim and care about the safety of others, we invite you to train to be a Junior Lifeguard. The course will help you gain the confidence and knowledge to apply for a lifeguard position at 16 years old. This program combines education with recreation, plus covers the technical skills of lifeguarding and the interpersonal skills to work with members and guests. Participants will learn about water safety, swim instruction, lifeguard skills, and leadership on the pool deck.

In addition, if you would like to participate in the Christmas mask exchange, bring an individually wrapped mask to exchange with the group. The group will discuss "The Giver of Stars", by Jojo Moyes. Set in a small Kentucky town in Depression-era America, the novel details the lives of five women who become traveling librarians, delivering books to the people of Kentucky. The story follows Alice Wright, a British woman, who moves after marrying the Kentucky native Bennett Van Cleve. When her reluctance to treat the newborn of a white supremacist couple results in the child’s death, a black nurse is placed on trial and is aided by a white public defender who urges her not to bring up race in the courtroom.
