REACHING OUR POTENTIAL TOGETHER

We believe the strength and cohesiveness of our communities is linked to the overall prosperity of the nation. With more than 42 million foreign-born individuals living in the United States, it is more important than ever to foster an environment that encourages immigrant integration and community cohesion.

The YMCA’s NAWCs are designed to help immigrants—also referred to as newcomers—fully integrate into American society and prepare receiving communities to be welcoming and inclusive. NAWCs accomplish this through a combination of integration services, collaborations with community leaders and businesses, and strategies to connect and build cross-cultural understanding between immigrants and U.S.-born residents.

The North Kansas City YMCA's NAWC has organized more than 20 regional bridge-building and welcoming week events and had more than 50 graduates complete its English as a Second Language program, helping immigrants pursue their dreams of becoming American citizens and promoting inclusion, dignity and equality.

Immigrants make up seven percent of the population in the Kansas City metro area and the Y is committed to ensuring that everyone in our community has access to programs and opportunities to increase their well-being. Join us on Friday, May 10 at the North Kansas City YMCA to learn more about the Y’s NAWC and hear from a student in the English as a Second Language program who will share their journey.
