Kansas City Chiefs and the Y Launch Flag Football Partnership

The Kansas City Chiefs and the YMCA of Greater Kansas City have launched a new partnership to offer flag football throughout the greater Kansas City area.

The Y’s youth flag football programs for ages 5 and older are now sponsored by the Chiefs. Flag football participants will receive exclusive Chiefs jerseys and footballs, as well as access to Chiefs football camps, special events for families, and appearances by KC Wolf and the Chiefs Cheerleaders.

“The game of football is such a passion for so many people in this community,” Chiefs Director of Community Engagement Gary Spani said. “Kids should be a part of it and if they learn the game the right way and see how much fun it is, they can learn valuable life lessons that extend beyond the game. The Y’s long history of providing youth sports to our community will ensure a positive experience for all, and the Chiefs look forward to being part of it.”

To celebrate the beginning of the partnership the Chiefs Community Caring Team, including KC Wolf and Chiefs Cheerleaders, will visit the kickoff of the spring YMCA Flag Football program at the Fred and Shirley Pryor YMCA Challenger Sports Complex at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 30. The Challenger Sports Complex is located at 2001 NW 87th Terrace, Kansas City, Missouri 64154.

“We are grateful to the Chiefs for their support, which will help give more youth throughout the metro the opportunity to play flag football,” said Garry Linn, senior vice president of operations for the YMCA of Greater Kansas City. “The Chiefs’ commitment to youth development and healthy living align perfectly with the Y’s sports programs.”

YMCA Youth Flag Football sponsored by the Chiefs is underway for the spring season. Registration will open for the fall season in July. Visit KansasCityYMCA.org/Sports for more information.

The Chiefs involvement in flag football is a key tenant of Chiefs Kingdom Kids, the Chiefs new youth-focused programming. Chiefs Kingdom Kids aims to provide unique experiences both at Arrowhead and around Kansas City – including movie nights, the Legends Youth Football Camp, Jr. Chiefs Cheer Camps and more. Chiefs Kingdom Kids will officially launch and be open for sign-ups in late April.

About the Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs have a long history of supporting youth football within the community. Throughout the years, the Chiefs have hosted youth football events geared to educate parents and coaches and prepare youth athletes for the next level of play. The Hunt family has made corporate citizenship and charitable giving a priority for the entire organization. Those efforts focus on programs which improve the civic climate in our region, support families and children in crisis, improve health and wellness among children, as well as preserve the legacy and history of the game of football and the National Football League.
