University Health Community Care at Linwood Grand Opening

Linwood Clinic Ribbon Cutting

Truman Medical Center officially opened University Health Community Care at Linwood on March 8, 2018 with a ribbon cutting celebration. The state-of-the-art medical clinic is adjacent to the Linwood YMCA/James B. Nutter Community Center and will allow for collaboration and referrals between TMC staff and the Y staff. Services are focused on family medicine and behavioral health in a neighborhood that has lacked these services.

The philosophy behind the new facility is that good health starts in the community, where patients live, learn and exercise.

“Opening a primary care clinic in the newly renovated Linwood YMCA/James B. Nutter, Sr. Community Center just makes sense for us,” said Truman Medical Centers President and CEO Charlie Shields. “It’s such a great opportunity for patients to be able to talk to their providers about the positive effects of exercise when there’s a state-of-the-art workout facility connected to the clinic. And that’s really our goal, to meet people where they are and help them commit to maintaining good health.”

The 7,000 square-foot clinic will serve YMCA members and those in the surrounding community. Four physicians and a nurse will see patients in the beautifully designed space. Those providers will focus on everything from treating patients with chronic health diseases such as diabetes and asthma to pediatric care.

"By partnering with University Health/Truman Medical Centers, we're able to create a healthier Kansas City and support physicians in the ongoing management of chronic disease," said YMCA of Greater Kansas City President and CEO David Byrd. "The Y's healthy living coaches will support patients to make ongoing lifestyle changes to improve overall health and to manage or prevent conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure."

Many in the neighborhood have had to drive miles to doctors appointments. This new clinic provides a more convenient option.

It is the first partnership of its kind in Kansas City, and in the country.
