(Kansas City, Mo.) – The YMCA of Greater Kansas City announced today it received a grant for $20,000 from Bayer Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer in the U.S. This grant will be used toward building a better future by supporting food distribution programs and food pantries.

“The Y is grateful for Bayer Fund’s support to prevent hunger in our community,” said Mark Hulet, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Kansas City. “One in ten people in the metro experience food insecurity and don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Bayer Fund’s support helps fill this gap.”

Bayer Fund and the YMCA of Greater Kansas City’s mutual goal is to see the communities they serve flourish. The grant from Bayer Fund will support mobile
food distribution programs and food pantries at the Cleaver Family YMCA and Linwood YMCA/James B. Nutter, Sr., Community Center in Kansas City, Mo.; the North Kansas City YMCA in North Kansas City, Mo.; and the Olathe Family YMCA in Olathe, Kan.

“Bayer Fund is proud to support the YMCA of Greater Kansas City and their work to make real, sustainable impacts in their community,” said Al Mitchell, President of Bayer Fund. “Programs like the Y’s help combat the critical issue of food insecurity, and we’re proud to play a role with helping even more people in our community have access to healthy, nutritious food.”

In 2023, Bayer Fund awarded more than $12.1 million to over 2,300 charitable and nonprofit organizations to help address essential needs in Food and Nutrition, STEM Education and Health & Wellness. Since 2017, nonprofit organizations across the U.S. have received nearly $90 million from Bayer Fund.
