Artists of all abilities are invited to help us make our space more colorful! Ernest Mickens will be helping us paint the pool windows with Halloween themed designs. Ernest is a membership call center representative with our Y and our resident art expert. All supplies will be provided and there is absolutely no prior painting experience required.
Join the YMCA Urban Farm and Michele Livergood from the Master Gardener Speakers Bureau as she discusses how to get a head start on next year’s garden by building miniature greenhouses from recycled containers to prepare seeds for germination. Afterward, we will spend a few minutes discussing our own winter greenhouse volunteer opportunities as we move into the colder months. This event is $5 for members, which goes back to the Master Gardener Speakers Bureau public education program.
United Healthcare has partnered with the YMCA of Greater Kansas City to bring public Medicare information sessions all around the Kansas City area. Sessions will cover the Medicare basics, different coverage options, enrollment and more. Meetings are open to the public with no registration necessary.
Free class for older adults who are concerned about falling or have fallen or want to increase activity and exercise. Participant can walk independently (a cane is okay.) Not appropriate for those with dementia. Learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increased activity, improve balance, flexibility and strength, and make changes at home to reduce fall risk. Class is led by a North Kansas City Hospital Registered Nurse.

This month’s book club will meet in the Wellness Corner to discuss “Wild Women and the Blues” by Denny S. Bryce. This is a historical fiction set in Jazz Age Chicago. Participants can buy their own copy or borrow one from MidContinent Public Library by picking it up directly from the Y. Unleash your inner kid! Join us at the Urban Farm (east side of the lot) to play yard games, enjoy some hot dogs and spend time socializing outdoors. Make sure to wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
