This 6-week course, taught by Clay County Senior Services, will help participants overcome some of mental and physical barriers caused by chronic pain, so they can live their healthiest life. Class is every Wednesday from January 18 to February 22. Last day for registration is January 11. 

Cookies, frosting, and instruction will be provided. Participants will take home their cookies in provided to-go boxes. *This event will take place at the Kirk Family YMCA*

The North Kansas City YMCA will host a Thanksgiving Potluck in Community Room D. We will provide main dishes and beverages.

This month’s book club will meet in the wellness corner to discuss “The Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud, and the Last Trial of Harper Lee,” by Casey Cep. This is our club’s first nonfiction selection, detailing famed author Harper Lee’s attempt at writing a true crime book, in the fashion of her contemporary, Truman Capote.

Participants can buy their own copy or borrow one from MidContinent Public Library by picking it up directly from the Y. No need to RSVP but contact Lauren at laurencrome@kansascityymca.org if you would like a copy of the book provided.

Joe Ann Hunter from Humana will be leading us through an activity to learn how to reduce sodium, while still cooking delicious food. Each participant will take home their own low sodium spice mixes.

Supplies will be available for 12 people so sign up at the sheet on the Welcome Center as soon as possible.

Join us in our partnership with Giving Hope and Help as we pack some of their signature Love Bags. These bags contain feminine hygiene products to help women in our own community experiencing period poverty. Lack of access to feminine hygiene products can negatively affect women’s health, self-esteem, and socioeconomic status.

This service project is limited to 10 participants. If you would like to help, but cannot attend, please bring donations of period products to the center. Learn to Watercolor — Learn basic watercolor techniques with us as we paint a fall themed work of art. No art experience necessary. All supplies will be provided. Mix of virtual and hands on instruction. $2 charge.
