Carolyn has worked in many different areas of the Y, in both the Greater Kansas City area and in Florida.
She was a membership coordinator and office manager at the YMCA in Broward County, Florida, while attending Florida Atlantic University. After graduation, she taught high school English.
When she moved to Kansas City, she started working part-time at the Blue Springs, Independence and Cleaver Y locations in healthy living and membership. After 17 months as a part-time associate, she became the Associate Executive Director. After two years in that role, she moved on to the American Heart Association as a Development Director, with a specific focus on the Heart Walk. She returned to the Blue Springs YMCA in July 2018, taking on the role of Executive Director. It's come full circle for her after eight years!
Being a mom to her three children is Carolyn’s main passion. She also enjoys biking long distances and exploring KC, especially the food scene. She is also fluent in Dutch.
Aquatics Director & Healthy Living Director
A native of Blue Springs, Mo., Dawn Decker joined the Blue Springs Family YMCA as aquatics director on November 1, 2018. Dawn is returning to Blue Springs having served with the Ozarks Regional YMCA as program director for aquatics, wellness and Sports. Dawn has always loved sports, especially softball. She has even competed internationally, playing softball in Italy. She and Scott, her husband of over 30 years, have two sons, both of whom are also athletic. Their oldest son, Logan, is a police officer now, but spent years playing professional basketball in Italy and Curacao. Their youngest son, Trevor is an educator. They coach sports locally, as well as for USA softball teams. In 2016, they took a US softball team to Italy to complete in the Friendship Series. This past July, they coached another group of young women in a tournament in Australia.
Dawn joined the staff at the Ozarks Regional YMCA in Buffalo in 2014 as part-time sports coordinator, leading initiatives in youth wellness and sports programming. In 2016, she became a full-time program director, bringing fresh adult programs like the women’s basketball league, leading fun youth activities like basketball, homeschool PE and swim lessons and bringing the seniors of the community together for quarterly potlucks.
The Decker family has a rich history with the YMCA and is dedicated to the mission with hearts to serve their community.
Dawn loves to bake and is best known for her cinnamon rolls and sugar cookies. Co-workers always enjoyed meetings with Dawn knowing goodies were to be had!
