Cancer Survivors Program Offers Positive Life Change

YMCA of Greater Kansas City
March 18, 2016

For Jenny, the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program at the Blue Springs Family YMCA offered a positive life change after dealing with difficult life changes that come with a cancer diagnosis and treatment.

She joined the program a year and a half after her diagnosis with breast cancer. She said it gave her and others hope for a life they thought they had lost.

The weekly sessions were a change a pace, providing a comfortable place focused on health that wasn’t another doctor’s appointment.

Although the program helps participants regain physical strength, what stands out to Jenny are the intangible results--hope, excitement about moving forward and increased confidence.

Jenny forged connections with the other participants. One of the best parts for her was seeing the positive transformation of others in the group.

“I could tell they were getting their life back,” she said. “They had a new normal that was positive and hopeful.”

“I’m very grateful for LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, not just in my own life but what it did for other people,” she said. “Everything about this program is so necessary to a healthy future. Physically, spiritually, emotionally.”

Now, Jenny is looking forward to getting involved in a LIVESTRONG at the YMCA alumni group.
