Earn While You Learn – A Job with Y Club Could Lead to a New Career in IT

A job with the Y’s before and after school Y Club program could lead to a new career in IT, thanks to a new partnership with SnapIT Solutions.

Associates who live in Johnson, Wyandotte, or Leavenworth Counties in Kansas and work for the Y’s Youth Development Services, supporting kids in elementary schools throughout the metro, will have the opportunity to access training through SnapIT to become career-ready for high-demand IT jobs while they work for the Y. The training is available at no cost to the associate.

The partnership is primarily funded through the Johnson County Works program.  Additional private funders are supporting the expansion of the program into Wyandotte and Leavenworth Counties.

A Great Job and Training Together

Youth Development jobs with the Y offer fulfilling roles as youth leaders, providing mentoring and supportive care for the children in Greater Kansas City, as well as a needed and valued service for parents and families. SnapIT self-paced certification classes work to fit around work schedules at the Y.

This opportunity is ideal for people looking for a career change and not currently planning to attend college or vocational school, but would like to be on the fast track to learning skills for a career in IT. Paid training with SnapIT’s model is offered to employees of all ages and prior experience levels, whether it’s a younger student or an adult looking to enter a new career.

SnapIT Solutions is a hi-tech training and solutions firm headquartered in Kansas City Metro that delivers in-demand IT trainings that aim to build foundations in tech careers. SnapIT Solutions provides resource augmentation and IT staffing for its clients, and also places concentrated emphasis on recruiting, screening, training and preparing talent for in-demand tech positions for fortune 500 companies.

The idea for the partnership originated from a collaboration between SnapIT’s Founder and CEO Neelima Parasker and the YMCA of Greater Kansas City’s President and CEO John Mikos. The two recognized that working together on recruiting and training opportunities would benefit the community through strengthening the IT and child care work forces and providing future opportunities for local youth.

“At SnapIT, we strive to be agents of change for our community, and the YMCA is Kansas City’s go-to solution for before- and after-school care for our young children,” Parasker said. “This partnership is a way that our two community-minded organizations can team up; recruit, train and financially support the Y’s employees; and ensure that they’re on a tech career trajectory if they choose to enter this exponentially growing industry.”

The YMCA and SnapIT are currently recruiting participants for this unique career opportunity.

“The skills our employees gain from SnapIT’s training offer great opportunities for our organization,” Mikos said. “The partnership benefits Y families by engaging more people to become leaders of our before and after school learning and enrichment programs, and provide much-needed child care for working families. The technical skills they learn can be applied to boost the STEM curriculum in our programs, and also help open the door for our associates to pursue a career in IT.”
